Alexandria - Apr. 9, 2011 - Alexandria hockey enthusiasts Matthew McDonald and Shane Obrien demonstrated their community spirit and need to support area youth by hosting a fun Hockey Tournament at the Glengarry Sports Palace on April 2.
Four teams of friends took to the ice for some competitive hockey. When it was all over, the host team "Loose Cannons," were crowned champions.
The real winners are the youths at the North Glengarry Youth Centre as approximately $500 was raised for the worthy cause.
The teams consisted of the Loose Cannons, Steel Panthers, Danglers and Drag Kings. Proud sponsors of the event included Roy's Garage, Caisse Populaire de la Vallee, Glen Robertson Softball League and the Glengarry Sports Palace. Local youth Phil Delorme volunteered as timekeeper and referees took a cut in pay to support the cause.
Members of the winning team include coach Dan Rouette (front); (middle row from left) Pierre-Luc Sabourin (coach), Leo McLean, Ghislain Nadeau, Matthew McDonald (organiser) and Shane Obrien (organiser); (back row from left Luc "Ti-Loup" Sabourin, John Lauzon, Lance Stuart, Pierre-Luc Marleau, Pat Hurtubise, Joel Doiron and Tyler Obrien.
