Winchester - Mar. 28, 2011 - We've all visited a library to borrow a book, but what about visiting a library to borrow a bicycle?

That scenario is now a reality for North Dundas residents thanks to the opening of a new township-run Recreation Library.

Considered the first of its kind in the area, the Recreation Library gives North Dundas residents a chance to borrow a wide range of sports and recreation items at no charge, similar to a traditional library.

Skates, nets, balls, life jackets, water toys, skateboards, bicycles, helmets, baseball gloves and hockey sticks are just some of the many items that can be borrowed.

All new borrowers are asked to apply for a membership account at the time of their first loan request. From then on, equipment will be signed in and out by a staff member at the North Dundas township office.

Township officials said the program is great for both individuals and groups.

The innovative program is just one of the many sports and recreation offerings outlined in the Spring/Summer edition of North Dundas' Recreation and Culture Resource Guide.

The guide contains an extensive listing of activities for residents of all ages, including community sports, dancing, yoga, theatre and swimming.
