Citizen of the Year recipient Rod McLeod has been named honourary chair of the 2001 Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation Golf Classic.

Cornwall - Apr. 1, 2011 - The Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation has appointed a Citizen of the Year recipient to head up its 2011 Golf Classic.

Rod McLeod has been appointed as the honourary chair of the summer fundraiser for the local hospital.

The educator and hockey coach was recently awarded the title of Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year and is proud to be the first "citizen" to be named to the role of honourary chair.

"This is a great honour," said McLeod in a news release. "I am happy to lend my profile to the foundation’s Golf Classic knowing how important new equipment is to the hospital and ultimately the community."

Foundation executive director Connie Vardy acted on a request by Golf Committee members and soon put the wheels in motion to connect the two prestigious roles. Chamber Executive Manager Lezlie Strasser fully supports the appointment, citing the organization's objectives to benefit the community as a "natural match."

The 2011 CCH Foundation Golf Classic will take place on August 10 at Summerheights Golf Links. Funds raised will purchase a $65,000 Transport Incubator for the hospital's tiniest patients.
