The Cornwall Lions Club has announced that former top ranked boxer Shawn O’Sullivan will be the guest speaker at the 47th Benson Cornwall Lions Club Sports Awards Dinner.

Cornwall - Mar. 17, 2011 - The Cornwall Lions Club has announced that former top ranked boxer Shawn O’Sullivan will be the guest speaker at the 47th Benson Cornwall Lions Club Sports Awards Dinner.

A Silver Medalist at the 19484 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, O’Sullivan became the poster boy for Canadian boxing in the 1980’s. O’Sullivan was named the 1981 Canadian Athlete of the Year after winning the Gold Medal at the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, Australia. O’Sullivan was also the Light Middleweight Amateur World Champion in 1981. O’Sullivan retired from professional boxing in 1991 with a 23-5 record with 16 knockouts

The Awards Dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, May 11th, 2011 at the Best Western Parkway Inn & Conference Centre. The highlight of the night will be the awarding of the Jacques Richard Trophy which is presented to Cornwall and area’s top sports personality. The 2010 recipient of the Jacques Richard trophy was OHA hockey scout Bill Murphy.
