Ottawa - December 8, 2014 - The Ottawa Senators have named former assistant coach Dave Cameron the new head coach of the team. Cameron has been on the coaching staff since 2011. Prior to becoming an assistant coach with Ottawa, Cameron was the head coach of the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors of the Ontario Hockey League from 2007-2011, helping the team to the 2011 Memorial Cup final

There had been speculation Cameron would take the role of interim head coach but GM Bryan Murray announced Cameron would take the top spot permanently.

The announcement came just hours after Paul MacLean was fired from his post of head coach. This was his fourth seaon in the role.

MacLean is the first NHL coach to be fired this season.
