Kelowna - August 22, 2013 - Games at the Kelowna Rockets 2013 rookie camp got underway Thursday morning and it didn't take long for the Rockets top pick in this year's WHL bantam draft to turn some heads.

Dillon Dube, who the Rockets selected with its first pick (21st overall) in this summer's bantam draft, showed great speed and skill in his first game on Thursday morning.

"I was a little bit surprised at how well it went," said Dube following the game. "I had good teammates out there and it was a really fun game."

A native of Cochrane, AB, Dube played last season at Notre Dame academy in Saskatchewan where he had over 50 points in 26 games. This year he's expecting to return to play for Notre Dame's midget AAA program.

"I want to try and step it up this year because I want to play in the WHL. I have to work really hard to try and be a top player to get here," said Dube. "The Rockets are a great organization. I know some guys at Notre Dame that went through (Kelowna) and all they talked about was how great it was."

Dube hit the ice early Thursday as the Rockets camp kicked off with wall-to-wall games at Prospera Place. Close to 180 players are split into 10 teams with each player playing seven games total before the camp closes Sunday afternoon.

"It was great," said Dube, of his first game action. "I just want to show them what I have, why they drafted me...just to work hard for them."

Several players from the Rockets rookie camp will be invited over to the team's main training camp which begins Monday.

The Rockets have home exhibition games on Aug. 30 and Sept. 7. Tickets are on sale at Select Your Tickets and $2 from each ticket will be donated to Cops for Kids.

The Rockets WHL home opener is Sept. 21 vs. Kamloops.
