Seven different players found the back of the net for the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday afternoon, as the defending WHL champs picked up their second win in as many days, defeating the Tri-City Americans by a score of 7-4 at this weekend’s 10th annual Holiday Inn Preseason Classic tournament in downtown Everett.

Portland - August 31, 2013 - Seven different players found the back of the net as the Winterhawks picked up a 7-4 win over the Tri-City Americans Saturday in preseason play from Everett, WA.

The Hawks are 2-0 thus far in exhibition action.

Alex Schoenborn started things off for the Hawks early on, scoring just 1:09 into the game to make it 1-0.

Portland forward Adam Rossignol made it 2-0 at the 6:53 mark, but Tri-Cities’ Brian Williams got one back at the 12:28 mark to make it 2-1 going into the second.

Hawks defenseman Garrett Haar made it a two-goal lead once again 2:43 into the second to make it 3-1, but 18 seconds later the Americans’ Lucas Nickles scored to bring them back within one at 3-2. Later in the frame Hawks rookie Ethan Price scored his first career WHL goal at the 7:56 mark to make it 4-2, a lead the Hawks took into the third.

After a shorthanded Tri-Cities goal from Jessey Astles at the 9:31 mark made it 4-3, the Hawks exploded for three straight power play goals from Nic Petan, Adam de Champlain and Dominic Turgeon to make it 7-3. The Americans added one more from Philip Tot as the Hawks came away with the 7-4 victory.

Recently-signed goaltender Michael Bullion went the distance between the pipes for the Hawks, making 28 saves on 32 shots. The Americans split their goaltending duties between Troy Trombley, who allowed four goals on 18 shots, and Evan Sarthou, who allowed three goals on 15 shots.

Portland was again excellent on special teams, going 3-7 on the power play and 2-3 on the penalty kill.

The Hawks are back in action tomorrow at 7 p.m. when they take on the Everett Silvertips in Everett.
