Wilkes-Barre Scranton - October 22, 2014 -

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced this afternoon that they have assigned goaltender Eric Hartzell to the WBS Penguins from the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL).


The 25-year old second-year pro went 10-8-1 last year for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with a 2.48 goals against average, a .901 save percentage, three shutouts and was named AHL Goaltender of the Month for January. In 14 appearances with Wheeling in 2013-14, Hartzell posted a record of 8-5-1 with a 3.13 GAA, a .900 save percentage and one shutout.


Hartzell was named USA Hockey College Player of the Year and a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award in 2013 after posting a 30-7-5 record and helping Quinnipiac University reach the school’s first-ever Frozen Four appearance and NCAA championship.


The Penguins return home this Friday evening to face the Springfield Falcons at 7:05pm, and will play host to the Binghamton Senators on Sunday afternoon at 4:05pm
