OUR PAST - A look at the old Cornwall Canal
Cornwall - Jul. 7, 2011 - Each week OurHometown.ca will post an old photo from our area. This week we are featuring a photo of the old Cornwall Canal. The Canal has been filled in and is now home to Water Street and Lamoureux Park. On the left hand side of the photo, the Swing Bridge can be seen. Reminants of that bridge remain in the park today and serves as the location for a memorial to injured workers. In the middle of the photo, there are two docked boats and they would likely be situated on Water Street just outside of Cornwall Square today. To the right of the photo, there is an inlet of the St. Lawrence River. This area has been filled in and is home to the Civic Complex today.

Please feel free to send us your old photos!
