Snow Day - Buses are cancelled but schools remain open in Cornwall and Area

Area school children are waking up to another snow day today and parents are scrambling to make alternate plans. Buses are cancelled, but schools are open. Both the Upper Canada District School Board and the Catholic Distric School Board of Eastern Ontario have pulled their buses off the roads today due to the freezing rain warning.

Cornwall - January 27, 2012 - Area school children are waking up to another snow day today and parents are scrambling to make alternate plans.

Buses are cancelled, but schools are open. Both the Upper Canada District School Board and the Catholic Distric School Board of Eastern Ontario have pulled their buses off the roads today due to the freezing rain warning.

The Weather Network is reporting that a low pressure system currently centred near Lake Erie is tracking northeastward today reaching Maine by this evening. North of the system, a broad band of freezing rain continues over the warned area. Over western and southern portions of the warned area, the freezing rain will likely persist for a few hours early this morning. However it will be prolonged further east, especially near the Ottawa and St Lawrence valleys, where it will likely continue until near noon, eventually changing to snow. Consult your public forecast for the details of expected precipitation types and timing in your area. Motorists and pedestrians should be prepared for dangerous travelling conditions. Untreated surfaces will become ice covered and very slippery.
