Cornwall - February 17, 2014 - With a widely expected Provincial Election to be triggered in the spring, the Liberal Nomination in Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry is beginning to heat up. Recently, John Earle and Del Jones have announced their intention to seek the Grit Nomination.

Earle is a local entrepreneur and filmmaker.

“I’m very pleased with the direction of the association’s new executive and looking forward to working with our community to move forward in a positive way”, remarked Earle. “Ontario is a fantastic place to live and we in Stormont, Dundas and South Glengarry have a key role to play in the economic prosperity of this province. I’m proud to live here, raise my family here, and operate my business in S.D.S.G. It’s time to move forward and help our region grow.”

Jones is a professional accountant with over twenty years of management experience with some of Canada’s most successful corporations. He is now in his ninth year of a second career as a secondary school teacher with the Upper Canada District School Board. He has also served a four year term as a South Dundas municipal councilor and performed the duties of Treasurer for the Winchester District Memorial Hospital.

“This is a critical time in the history of our province and I believe that I can make a difference”, he said. “I have the experience, skills and ability to get things done that will ensure my success as a representative of SDSG. And most importantly, I am driven to do what’s right, and what’s fair.”

There have been nine by-elections since the 2011 General Election and the NDP have won four, the Liberals three and the PCs two. Seven of those seats were previously held by the Liberals and they lost four of them (three to the NDP and one to the PC). Two of these seats were previously held by the Conservatives and they have held one and lost the other to the NDP.

In terms of popular votes over the nine by-elections the Conservatives lead with 107,124 votes, the Liberals sit second with 93,641 and the NDP tallied 84,609.

It is unclear if their will be any further contenders for the SDSG Liberal Nomination. At this point, Earle and Jones will fight it out to run against PC MPP Jim McDonell. There has been no announced candidates for the NDP in this riding.

In 2011, McDonell won easily with over 54% of the vote.
