If conservatism is now being defined by the Reform Party, than I am done
I have been pretty open about being a small 'c' Conservative, but the true stripe of the Reform Party now in power is starting to come out. Stephen Harper is starting to reveal his ideology on a lot of things. Ideology be damned just take care of my business. If conservatism is now being defined by the Reform Party, than I am done.

Cornwall - Jan. 31, 2012 - I have been pretty open about being a small 'c' Conservative, but the true stripe of the Reform Party now in power is starting to come out. I read a column in the Ottawa Citizen (Jan. 21) in which the writer was talking about how Stephen Harper is starting to reveal his ideology on a lot of things. Ideology be damned (left or right) just take care of my business. Who needs these bubbleheads trying to "shape" our lives? They can’t think for themselves - how can they think for us. Keep things like religion, gay rights, abortion, etc out of the discussions - they none of your business.

The columnist was really pleased that the "red tories" were finally put out to pasture. Really? Run your life the way you choose but don’t preach to me - just take care of my business. If conservatism is now being defined by the Reform Party (Harper), than I am done. Count me out - I am now officially an independent.

Wait until my senior daughter reads this!!!

RAMBLINGS…

- On a light note - when will the second guessing of Brian Burke on the Phil Kessel trade go away please? I happen to agree it was a good trade. Kessel is 24 yrs old and has already score 87 goals as a Leaf and 187 in total. Do the math again. He is only 24 (October 2, 1987). Please let it rest.

- I have reconnected with some seniors in town and the Nortel trial about exec fraud claiming they fudged the books to favour their bonuses. This issue has hit them directly because the end result for them with Nortel going into the tank is that they have lost 40% of their pensions while these guys went down the road with millions. Proving this fraud will be tough but a lot of good info should come out. I have to admire these victims because they have remained social and upbeat.

- With all this talk about health care cost somebody has to turn their attention to drug cost. I am not talking about the public here - I am talking some Doctors seem to just throw a pill at the complaint. A recent experience with a friend who was on a hand full of pills every day (16-18) had a bad fall and they discovered three brain tumours. This person wasas in the hospital for an extended period and when released the specialists had reduced the meds to four. I bet a lot of people have a story like this.

- I notice the reporters were saying recently on that spy case that they needed more info â€" really -but there is no chance they will get any.

- I was watching Bill Maher on HBO recently and he was ranting about American politics and said the country was being run by Plutocrats (government by the wealthy--a wealthy class that controls a government). I have never thought about it in those terms, but I think he is right. Luckily it hasn’t taken hold in Canada but I fear when the money gets bigger - look out.

- Is it just me and my friends and family, or is the quality of cable [(picture breaking up) out of control. I am not happy with my provider

- Read a piece in the local paper recently where a local reporter was trying to get some background on the releasing of an HR Manager in town and interviewed an ex-Mayor. I don’t have any problem with the paper asking an ex-Mayor about what went on in an "in camera" meeting on the same subject during his tenure. I do however take serious issue with the ex-Mayor agreeing to talk. Maybe that is why he is an ex-Mayor.

Keep Smiling
