I Love Rock and Roll...but please!
I love classic rock. I’ve loved it since before it was classic. Yes, I’ve loved it since it was current. These days I don’t listen to classic rock on FM radio very often, because, quite frankly, I find it too boring. Too repetitive. I’d rather listen to my iPod, because I can play what I want.

Windsor - February 6, 2013 - I love classic rock. I’ve loved it since before it was classic. Yes, I’ve loved it since it was current. These days I don’t listen to classic rock on FM radio very often, because, quite frankly, I find it too boring. Too repetitive. I’d rather listen to my iPod, because I can play what I want.

This week, however, I decided it was time to update my playlist, so I turned to the radio for some ideas. Big mistake. Within a couple of hours I realized why I don’t listen to that classic rock station that starts with a “W” anymore. To quote an old Aerosmith song, it was the “Same Old Song And Dance.”

It made me think about some of the songs that I don’t ever want to hear again. If I somehow come back in another life as an FM program director, here are ten classic rock songs that make me cringe when I hear their intros, and would never see the light of day again.

“The Boys Are Back In Town” (Thin Lizzy) This song is so overplayed, it seems like the boys never left town.

“Walk This Way” (Aerosmith) Walk that way. And take this song with you.

“I Love Rock ‘N Roll” (Joan Jett) I do love rock ‘n roll. Just not this song.

“Carry On Wayward Son” (Kansas) There’ll be peace when this song’s done.

“Radar Love” (Golden Earring) One of two songs by this band that ever saw the light of day. Quick, name the other one!!

“I Want You To Want Me” (Cheap Trick) Didn’t you, didn’t you, didn’t you see me cryin’?

“Old Time Rock ‘N Roll” (Bob Seger) Just leave this old record on the shelf.

“Aqualung” (Jethro Tull) I’d rather be sleeping on a park bench than hear this song one more time.

“We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions” (Queen) We will, we will, bore you.

“Roxanne” (The Police) You don’t have to put on the red light. But if you do, it might make me forget about one of the most irritating songs ever recorded.

With apologies to Peter Frampton, “C’mon, let’s not do it again.”
