Random Thoughts For Paczki Day
Tuesday, February 12th is Bell’s “Let’s Talk” Day. In an attempt to raise awareness of mental health issues, Bell will donate five cents for every text, long distance call, #BellLetsTalk tweet, and every Facebook share of their Let’s Talk image. Money raised will be put towards mental health initiatives across Canada. Hats off to Canadian Olympian Clara Hughes and Bell for their efforts.

Windsor - February 12, 2013 - A new hockey book is due to hit the shelves later this year. Toronto writer and musician extraordinaire Dave Bidini (Rheostatics, BidiniBand) has written a memoir of himself at age eleven, while trying to find his childhood sporting hero, Dave Keon. Bidini, who writes a weekly column for The National Post, is not only a big sports fan, he is also the only Canadian to have been nominated for a Gemini, Genie and Juno award. His latest literary offering will be his twelfth book, and as a slightly older Keon fan, I must say that I can’t wait to read it.

Speaking of books, local author Mick Ridgewell has just put the finishing touches on his latest novel, “Evil Never Dies.” This will be Ridgewell’s second book, the first being “The Nightcrawler.” A horror story, “The Nightcrawler” is a tale of a young corporate VP named Scott Randall, who plans to drive from Detroit to Los Angeles to celebrate a successful deal. A homeless panhandler Randall ignored on the street has other ideas……. Ridgewell works several Detroit references into the story. Check out the full review at Samhain Publishing’s website.

You may recall that earlier this year I made a lot of New Year’s resolutions. In my attempt to follow through on at least one of them, I recently went razor shopping. I couldn’t believe how many options there were. After checking out several, and pricing the cost of replacement blades (some reasonable, some ridiculous), I opted for the Gillette Fusion. This razor shaved me so closely, I’m convinced that it took away hair I haven’t even grown yet!

I’m excited. Cautiously optimistic. My favourite blue and white hockey team seems to be on a bit of a roll. The Leafs have put together a nice little winning streak of four games, including a couple of convincing wins over Montreal and Philadelphia, outscoring them 11-2. Nice to see a little truculence and belligerence from a team that no one feared last season. Maybe it wasn’t Burke. Maybe it was Wilson, after all. Maybe it was both of them. It doesn’t matter, they’re winning, and showing the confidence that has been lacking for far too long. On a side note, Mikhail Grabovski came away from an incident in the Montreal game without any further discipline. I still don’t think he’d bite the hand that used to feed him.

From the “Things I Think You Should Know” department, the goodness of eating a Nutri Grain bar doesn’t cancel out the not so goodness of eating a big box of Smarties beforehand.

When it comes to the Three Stooges, am I the only one who thinks Larry was underrated? C’mon, who’s with me?

Happy Paczki Day. Go easy. Even though they’re just about the best donut you’ve ever had.

TC out.
