Here are some clouds shot in Riverside over Belle Isle after the sun went down. Thank you, Mother Nature!! The cruise ship Victory 1 made a port call to our fair city en route to Chicago as part of a ten day Great Lakes Grand Discovery Cruise. The ship leaves Toronto or Montreal, depending on the cruise, and makes its way to Chicago, touching each of the five Great Lakes in the process Sat, 13 Aug 2016 10:22:33 -0500SNAPSHOT - Two Ships Passing In The Dayhttp://www.ourhometown.ca/lifestyle/HS0405.phphttp://www.ourhometown.ca/lifestyle/HS0405.phpResearch shows that if you wait long enough you will be rewarded with a photo op. Tuesday morning I was at the river chasing a sunrise, when along came a couple of beauties. One was the American Mariner and the other was the Algoma Olympic Wed, 10 Aug 2016 14:37:20 -0500SNAPSHOT - University of Windor campus at Abars?http://www.ourhometown.ca/lifestyle/HS0404.phphttp://www.ourhometown.ca/lifestyle/HS0404.phpYesterday I half jokingly said that the University of Windsor should think about turning Abar's into a satellite campus for the History Dept. They would, of course, have to negotiate with the Moroun people. Perhaps a land swap with something closer to the bridge. When the Earth casts its shadow on a Full Moon and eclipses it, the Moon may get a red glow. This photo was sent to us by OH columnist Tim Cornett. Suddenly he dove into the 3 foot deep water for his next meal. Unsuccessful but determined, he patrolled the area for several hours. I got this photo just as he hit the water with talons and beak. Tregurthahttp://www.ourhometown.ca/lifestyle/HS0400.phphttp://www.ourhometown.ca/lifestyle/HS0400.phpCurrently known as the Queen of the Lakes, the MV Paul R. Tregurtha is the largest ship currently working the Great Lakes. She is a bulk carrier freighter, and was originally launched as the William J. DeLancey. She is the last of thirteen “thousand footers” to go into Great Lakes service. She is also the last Great Lakes ship to have been built in Lorain, Ohio at the American Ship Building Company yard. Located on the east side of Walker Road just north of Richmond Street, the brand new complex features many vendors selling fruits and vegetables. There is also a butcher, a baker, and while we didn’t see a candle stick maker, there was an Avon lady and a florist. The prices are great too. We stocked up on fruits and vegetables and got everything in the photo below for 23.00! Check it out next time you’re in the area. Charlottenburgh Park, however, is a favorite feeding ground for them. This photo was taken on Sunday, May 17th, 2015 at the campsite. Purple Martins, Ospreys, Goldfinches and American Bitterns are regular visitors to the area. Mon, 01 Jun 2015 06:52:39 -0500
