Windsor - August 8, 2012 - The City of Windsor is asking the public for comments and a name for its proposed Climate Change Adaptation Plan, a component under the City of Windsor’s Environmental Master Plan. The new adaptation plan will consider how the potential impacts of a changing climate will impact the residents of Windsor as well as municipal operations.

Dr. Gordon McBean, international authority on climate change, will be the key note speaker at a public meeting held at Ojibway Nature Centre, 5200 Matchette Rd. on Thursday, Aug. 16. The public is invited to attend and provide comment on the draft plan. Dr. McBean will speak on Adapting to the Weather Extremes Ahead as the introduction to public comments on developing the Climate Change Adaptation Plan for the City of Windsor.

“We know that changes in the climate impact our community,” explains Karina Richters, Environmental Coordinator for the City of Windsor. “The City has identified steps to mitigate the impact of climate change, but much more needs to be accomplished.”

The Ojibway public meeting will open at 5:30 p.m. Dr. McBean will speak at 7 p.m.

The public is requested to review Windsor’s draft Climate Change Adaptation Plan online at www.windsorenvironmentalmasterplan.ca and provide comment and a name for the plan at emp@city.windsor.on.ca. An information booth will also be open at Devonshire Mall on Saturday, Aug 18 and Sunday, August 19.
