The WESPYs Are Coming!!

Windsor - April 3, 2013 - Don’t look now, but the WESPY awards are coming! This is the time of year that the Windsor Essex Sports Persons of the Year get their due. We all know that Windsor has some of the finest athletes around, and on Tuesday, April 9th, they will be recognized for their efforts.

This year’s awards will mark the eighth time this event has been held, and the Caboto Club will serve as the host facility. The WESPYs honour athletes from Windsor and Essex County, and this year’s list of nominees is once again, an impressive one.

The following is a partial list of some of the nominees for the 2013 WESPYs.

Coach of the Year: Steve Vagnini - Windsor Stars Soccer, Chantal Vallee - Windsor Lancers, Dave Cooper - St. Clair College

Female Athlete of the Year: Melissa Bishop - Windsor Alumni, Miah-Marie Langlois -Windsor Lancers, Alyssa Getty - Kingsville Golf and Country Club

Male Athlete of the Year: Tyler Pope-Ferguson - Pointe West Golf Club/ Essex 73s, Jordan Brescacin - Windsor Lancers, Brandon McBride - W.F. Herman/Windsor Legion.

There will be many other award winners next Tuesday. The list of potential winners includes Bryce Evon (Golf), Cody Lavoie(Swimming), Kerby Rychel (Hockey), Dartis Willis (Windsor Express) and Josh Cameron (Border City Boxing Club), to name a few.

In addition to the many awards that will go to the many deserving athletes of our fair city, there will be a keynote speaker. This year? A fella named Ken Dryden. Yes. THAT Ken Dryden. The former Montreal Canadiens/Team Canada 1972 superstar goalie will address those in attendance.

Tickets are available at TheWESPYs.ca

Don’t miss it!!
