Whalers sweep Spits in Pre-Season Home and Home Series
Garrett Meurs scored twice to lead the Plymouth Whalers to a 5-3 win over the Windsor Spitfires in the pre-season home opener at the WFCU Centre on Monday afternoon. Kerby Rychel and Josh Ho-Sang each had a goal and two assists for the Spits, who lost to the Whalers for the second time in three days.

Windsor - September 3, 2012 - Garrett Meurs scored twice to lead the Plymouth Whalers to a 5-3 win over the Windsor Spitfires in the pre-season home opener at the WFCU Centre on Monday afternoon. Kerby Rychel and Josh Ho-Sang each had a goal and two assists for the Spits, who lost to the Whalers for the second time in three days.

Ryan Hartman and Mitch Jones each added a goal and an assist for Plymouth, which built a 5-0 lead through the game's first 31 minutes.

Hartman got the visitors on the board just nine seconds into the game off a Nick Ebert turnover in the neutral zone. Meurs made it 2-0 at 17:44 of the opening frame, roofing a Curtis Crombeen rebound over Jaroslav Pavelka.

The Whalers got an early start again in the second period, as Jones and Hartman paired up to make it 3-0 just 25 seconds in. Following power play goals from Meurs and Stefen Noesen in a three-minute span, Rychel finally Windsor on the board off a pass from Ho-Sang at 18:18.

Ho-Sang's first as a Spitfire followed at 5:54 of the third period. Michael Clarke rounded out the scoring with his first of the pre-season, with a little more than a minute to play.

Jaroslav Pavelka (26 shots, 4 goals against) and Jordan DeKort (18 shots, 1 goal against) split time in the Windsor goal.
