Sarnia - September 9, 2012 - Three third-period goals by the Windsor Spitfires weren't enough to salvage a win Sunday afternoon on the road against the Sarnia Sting.

Alex Galchenyuk's first goal of the pre-season stood up as the winner, as the Sting held on for a 4-3 victory over the Windsor Spitfires.

Trailing 3-0 past the midway point of the final frame, Sam Studnicka took a feed from Michael Clarke off a Sarnia turnover for his first of the pre-season, cutting the lead to 3-1. Galchenyuk, the third overall pick in this summer's NHL Draft, restored the three-goal lead just 24 seconds later.

But the Spits didn't quit, getting tallies from newcomer Derek Schoenmakers (13:25) and Jordan Maletta (14:39) to cut the lead to 4-3. The Spitfires killed a late Ryan Verbeek penalty, but couldn't find the equalizer after getting goaltender Jaroslav Pavelka to the bench with just 39 seconds to play. Clarke had a pair of assists and was named 3rd Star.

Bryan Moore led the Sarnia attack with a goal and an assist.
