Late Rychel goal seals comeback win for Spitfires over Hounds
Kerby Rychel's 17th goal of the season late in the third period capped a workmanlike comeback, as the Spitfires edged the Soo Greyhounds before 5,368 at the WFCU Centre on Thursday night.

Windsor - December 7, 2012 - Kerby Rychel's 17th goal of the season late in the third period capped a workmanlike comeback, as the Spitfires edged the Soo Greyhounds before 5,368 at the WFCU Centre on Thursday night.

Ben Johnson (5) and Brady Vail (12) had the other goals for Windsor, which won consecutive games for just the second time this season; the first coming when they beat these same Greyhounds on September 22nd, before topping the Kitchener Rangers on September 27th.

Sergey Tolchinsky (12) and Michael Schumacher scored for Sault Ste Marie (13-15-2-0), which fell two points behind Windsor (12-12-1-5) in the tightly-bunched Western Conference.

Tolchinsky opened the scoring at 7:03 of the opening period. Schumacher extended the lead to 2-0 at 7:49 of the second.

Desperately needing a goal, Johnson took another dazzling Josh Ho-Sang pass and beat Matt Murray (37 saves) to get the Spits within one.

But it was Vail's goal - a power play tally in the final minute - that turned the tide, tying the game at 2-2 after 40.

With just 4:18 left in what was a tightly-contested third period, Rychel followed a Zach Lorentz rebound that Murray couldn't handle and chopped it home for the game winner - his team-leading 17th of the year.

Jaroslav Pavelka was, once again, outstanding in goal for Windsor, turning aside 35 shots.

The Spitfires are now 7-0 against the three teams below them in the Western Conference standings this season: the Greyhounds (3-0), Spirit (2-0) and Otters (2-0).

They'll look to make it three straight wins Friday night in Sarnia. Gametime is 7:05.
