Windsor - January 17, 2013 - Alexander Khokhlachev's fourth goal in as many games since returning to Windsor stood up as the game-winner Jan. 17 as the Spitfires defeated the visiting Mississauga Steelheads 2-1.

Sam Studnicka's second goal of the season opened the scoring. After Steelheads goaltender Tyson Teichmann left the puck behind the Mississauga net, Spits forward Emerson Clark beat both defenders to the punch. His centering feed went through Remy Giftopoulos and onto Studnicka's tape, who buried it from the slot.

"It's good to get on the score sheet," Studnicka said. "I'm just trying to produce, help the team out. Create energy, that's really my role here."

The Steelheads outshot Windsor 33-18 for the game but couldn't solve Jaroslav Pavelka until Sam Babintsev slipped one through his legs with just under three minutes to play. That spoiled an otherwise perfect effort from Pavelka. Steelheads head coach James Boyd pointed to a second period glove save on Spenser Cobbold as a key moment in the game. The Steelheads forward had Pavelka down and out and looked to pot his own rebound, but Pavelka reached up and snagged his attempt.

"It was a game of missed opportunities for both teams," Boyd said. "We've been playing hard, limiting teams to two goals or less even-strength and we haven't been rewarded on the scoreboard."

The Spits will travel to London to face the the OHL's top-ranked Knights in a Friday night tilt.
