Windsor Spitfires issue statement on 2014 Memorial Cup going to London
The right to host the 2014 MasterCard Memorial Cup has been awarded to London. Congratulations to the Knights. The Windsor Spitfires organization believes it made a bid worthy of hosting the event. Windsor - May 14, 2013 - The right to host the 2014 MasterCard Memorial Cup has been awarded to London. Congratulations to the Knights.

The Windsor Spitfires organization believes it made a bid worthy of hosting the event. Our fan base, city and region, although disappointed with the decision of the site selection committee, should be very proud of the efforts put forward by our bid committee, who we thank for its tireless and dedicated efforts.

Despite being unsuccessful in securing the bid, our host committee will be looking at launching some of the programs prepared as part of the process. There are some great initiatives that can be carried forward that will be of great benefit to the people of Windsor and Essex County, who have supported us so loyally over the years.

On the ice, the Windsor Spitfires are moving forward with renewed energy and purpose, as we prepare for the 2013-2014 season. The club has up to 17 players eligible to return from the 2012-2013 roster. And with the CHL Import Draft coming up, we look forward to adding key pieces to a strong core and building a championship contender.

We believe that, with a few adjustments and a healthy roster, we will have a team that can make a substantial run this season.

In both 2009 and 2010, the Windsor Spitfires overcame great adversity to become MasterCard Memorial Cup Champions. Finding a way to get to London in May of 2014 is what motivates us going forward.

We will, once again, bring a winner back to our great city.

The organization intends to bid again the next time the Ontario Hockey League hosts the MasterCard Memorial Cup. Windsor and the communities of Essex County have proven to be very worthy hosts to major events in the recent past. We know the league will give serious consideration to our city and region and we look forward to having that opportunity again in the near future.

A sincere thank you goes out to all the people who offered their support and good wishes throughout this process.
