While it looked as though Connor McDavid had snuck a last second game-tying goal past Jonathan Quick to force overtime, the replay official saw it differently and in the end it left Edmonton on the wrong side of a 3-2 decision. Mon, 26 Oct 2015 20:50:23 +0000http://www.hometownhockey.ca/hockey/EDM0246.phphttp://www.hometownhockey.ca/hockey/EDM0246.phpAfter winning three straight games, the Edmonton Oilers were brought back down to earth by Evgeny Kuznetzov and the Washington Capitals on Friday night. While Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had two points a piece in the 7-4 loss, it was Kunetzov who stole the show with a hat-trick and a five-point effort. Sat, 24 Oct 2015 12:29:46 +0000http://www.hometownhockey.ca/hockey/EDM0245.phphttp://www.hometownhockey.ca/hockey/EDM0245.phpWhile it was far from a perfect performance, the Edmonton Oilers still found a way to beat the Detroit Red Wings in regulation for the first-time in a very long time on Wednesday night. On the strength of another solid outing by netminder Cam Talbot and some timely production from the trio of Connor McDavid, Benoit Pouliot and Nail Yakupov, the Oilers managed to sneak past the Wings with a 3-1 win over at Rexall Place. Thu, 22 Oct 2015 12:07:32 +0000http://www.hometownhockey.ca/hockey/EDM0244.phphttp://www.hometownhockey.ca/hockey/EDM0244.phpOn the strength of goals from Connor McDavid, Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Nail Yakupov, the Edmonton Oilers registered their first win of the 2015-16 season with a 5-2 drubbing of the Calgary Flames on Saturday night. The four former first overall picks combined to score all five of the Oilers goals while combining for nine points. Sun, 18 Oct 2015 15:50:36 +0000http://www.hometownhockey.ca/hockey/EDM0243.phphttp://www.hometownhockey.ca/hockey/EDM0243.phpIt may not have been the result anyone was hoping for from the last home opener to ever be played at Rexall Place but yesterday's 4-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues was arguably the best all around game the Edmonton Oilers have played this season. Unfortunately, scoring goals continues to be a problem but don't be surprised to see that change in the very near future. Fri, 16 Oct 2015 11:48:47 +0000http://www.hometownhockey.ca/hockey/EDM0242.phphttp://www.hometownhockey.ca/hockey/EDM0242.phpWhile fans of the Edmonton Oilers were celebrating Connor McDavid's first-goal and an outstanding debut from netminder Anders Nilsson, the rest of the team was essentially a no-show in Dallas, dropping a 4-2 decision to the Stars on Tuesday night. Wed, 14 Oct 2015 12:45:29 +0000http://www.hometownhockey.ca/hockey/EDM0241.phphttp://www.hometownhockey.ca/hockey/EDM0241.phpIf one were to simply look at the box score from last night’s game between the Edmonton Oilers and Nashville Predators, they would likely come to the conclusion that Pekka Rinne was sole the reason Todd McLellan’s side dropped a 2-0 decision. While the three-time Vezina Trophy nominee was solid in between the pipes, the 32-year old was rarely tested by Connor McDavid. Sun, 11 Oct 2015 10:41:56 +0000http://www.hometownhockey.ca/hockey/EDM0240.phphttp://www.hometownhockey.ca/hockey/EDM0240.phpOn night in which Edmonton Oilers centre Connor McDavid made his long awaited NHL debut, it was a childhood friend of the 2015 first overall pick who stole the spotlight in yesterday’s showdown with the St. Louis Blues. Fellow rookie Robby Fabbri scored what proved to be the eventual game-winner midway through the third period, as the Oilers dropped their season opener 3-1 to the reigning Central Division winners. Fri, 09 Oct 2015 09:15:34 +0000http://www.hometownhockey.ca/hockey/EDM0239.phphttp://www.hometownhockey.ca/hockey/EDM0239.phpWhile it did not come as a complete surprise, yesterday's appointment of Peter Chiarelli as the Edmonton Oilers new President of Hockey Operations and General Manger, it still managed to send shock waves throughout Oilers Nation. With Connor McDavid already firmly in this organization's back pocket, Bob Nicholson wasted little time in changing his management team and Craig MacTavish has no one but himself to blame for no longer being in the position he has held for the last two years. Sat, 25 Apr 2015 12:05:24 +0000http://www.hometownhockey.ca/hockey/EDM0238.phphttp://www.hometownhockey.ca/hockey/EDM0238.phpWhile the vast majority of hockey fans decided to lose their collective minds over news of the Edmonton Oilers winning what has essentially become the Connor McDavid Sweepstakes during Saturday's Draft Lottery, this notion that he is headed to some sort of wasteland for No. 1 picks is downright idiotic. While the frustration of seeing him go to the Oilers is understandable, people need to give their heads a shake. Mon, 20 Apr 2015 12:08:44 +0000
