Breaking News - Markov suffers rehab setback

Whitby - September 15, 2011 - It has been reported by THE TEAM 990’s own Tony Marinaro via Twitter that Habs star defenseman Andrei Markov suffered a setback more than three weeks ago due to overtraining. There appears to be excess water in Markov’s knee and he required to have it drained in the United States.

Markov was not available to speak to the media at the team’s annual golf tournament in Montreal on Wednesday for fear of the news getting out. There also seemed to be high tension between Markov and the Canadiens’ brass over the incident.

CBC also indicates that Habs’ GM Pierre Gauthier was asked on Wednesday if Markov would be ready to start the regular season, to which Gauthier indicated “we hope so. There is no problem with his knee and he will continue his rehab. If the season started tomorrow he wouldn’t be able to play, obviously.”

Should make for an interesting Friday in Montreal…
