Edmonton - May 31, 2012 - Canadian Milos Raonic continued his strong play during Day Five of the 2012 French Open and remains on targets for a potential fourth round match-up against defending champion Rafa Nadal. Raonic made quick work of American Jesse Levine while Nadal continued to pick a part his opponents, dropping only four games to Denis Istomin.. Tenth seed John Isner was involved in yet another epic battle but fell in five grueling sets to Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu.

The hard hitting Thornhill, Ontario native, pounded out eighteen aces on the day but dis struggle slightly with his service game. He was successful on 55% of his serves and committed eight double faults, which did not cost him against Levine but will give him no chance against the better players in the world. In pulling off the straight sets 6-4, 7-5, 6-2 victory, the youngster will get some rest before taking on better opponents from here on in.

Thirteenth seed Juan Monaco took out Lukas Rosol 7-6, 6-0, 7-6 and will now face Raonic in round three. The clay court specialist will give Canada's top player all he can handle and at least prepare him for taking on Nadal in the fourth round.

The second seeded Spaniard seems to bee getting better with each passing match and was barely warm before dismissing Istomin 6-2 ,6-2, 6-0. The ten time Grand Slam winner was not over powering by any means but he simply worked the forty-third ranked native of Uzbekistan, all over the court, before winning eighty-three of a possible one hundred and twenty six points. Rafa will now face Argentine Eduardo Schwank in round three before taking on the winner of the Raonic vs Monaco match.

Isner was involved in the match of the day, as he went five sets plus against veteran Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu. The American bomber who has seemingly played lengthy five matches at every Grans Slam since being part of the memorable three day, eleven hour epic at Wimbledon in 2010...against another Frenchman, Nicolas Mahut. Isner was the aggressor for much of the match but had little left for the final set. The big man knocked out 107 winners for the match but also had 98 unforced errors on the day. The match took 5 hours and 41 minutes to play, with the hometown favourite eventually coming out on top 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 3-6 and 18-16, in a final set that took just under two and a half hours to complete.

Fifth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga quickly finished off his previously suspended match against Cedrik-Marcel Stebe, with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win. Fourth seed Andy Murray dropped the opening set 1-6 to Jarkko Nieminen before rebounding nicely with a 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 showing over the final three sets. Other notable winners included sixth seed David Ferrer, Serbian Janko Tipsarevic and hometown favourite Richard Gasquet.
