Edmonton - September 8, 2012 - Number three seed Andy Murray survived less than ideal playing conditions, in beating Tomas Berdych 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, 7-6, en route to his second consecutive Grand Slam Final. The win puts Murray into his fifth career slam final and second US Open, as he looks to capture that elusive first career major title. The reigning Olympic champion, will face the winner of semi-final #2, between defending champ Novak Djokovic and number four seed David Ferrer, for the 2012 US Open crown.

In a match that featured gusting winds throughout, it was the the big serving Czech that seemed more comfortable out of the gate, with the always changing weather conditions. After the two men exchanged early breaks, Berdych would earn a second at 6-5, to take the opening set. While he did commit 19 unforced errors in the set, the 2010 Wimbledon finalist dictated much of the play and was more than deserving of taking the seventy-seven minute opener. Unfortunately for him, that would not be the case over the next two.

While Murray committed only six unforced errors combined, over sets number two and three, Berdych became unglued. He not only continued committing error after error but his usual booming serve abandoned him, as he was broken five times, to fall behind two sets to one. To be fair, this one looked to be done. It was no longer a matter of if but rather how long the fourth set would take.

Give the big Czech credit, as he managed to right the ship and push Murray to the limit. Despite being broken early, Berdych fought back to earn his first break points since the opening set and converted, to get this one back on serve and push it all the way to a tiebreaker.

The twenty-six year old jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and stretched it out to 5-2, before Murray bared down and wrestled control of the breaker. After fighting off one set point, the Scotsman put this one to bed, after four hours of play, with a 9-7 win.
