Province begins renewal of Peace River Bridge

The Highway 2 bridge over the Peace River in the Town of Peace River will be repaired to improve the driving surface and maintain a safe river crossing for motorists. Bridge deck work will begin on August 25th. Crews began preparing the site during the week of August 10th.

Edmonton - August 21, 2012 - The Highway 2 bridge over the Peace River in the Town of Peace River will be repaired to improve the driving surface and maintain a safe river crossing for motorists. Bridge deck work will begin on August 25. Crews began preparing the site during the week of August 10.

Bridge resurfacing extends the life of the existing bridge and creates a smooth, durable driving surface that increases motorist safety. In order to minimize the impacts on drivers crossing the Peace River, single lane closures will occur only between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m.

For those who prefer, there are alternate river crossings on Highway 986 adjacent to the DMI Mill 15 km north of Peace River, and on Highway 2 at Dunvegan 100 km west of Peace River.

Innovative Civil Constructors Inc. is doing the $1.2 million repair to the 44-year-old bridge deck and the project is expected to be complete by November 15, weather permitting.

Motorists should drive with courtesy in the construction zone and obey all signs and posted speed limits.
