Suspicious downtown death confirmed as homicide
The Medical Examiner has confirmed that the suspicious death in downtown Edmonton on January 9, 2013 was indeed a homicide. However, the exact cause of death has not yet been determined.The Edmonton Police Service investigation is still on-going.

Edmonton - January 11, 2013 - The Medical Examiner has confirmed the suspicious death from Wednesday evening as a homicide, however, the exact cause of death has not yet been determined.

Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Homicide Section detectives are speaking with witnesses and interviewing several persons of interest. The investigation is on-going.

The identity of the 50 year old deceased male is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Background:
At 8:42 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, Downtown Division patrol officers responded to a phone call reporting a sudden death at a residence in the area of 106 Avenue and 100 Street.

Upon arrival, EPS and EMS confirmed the presence of a 50-year-old deceased male inside the home.

Homicide Section is leading the investigation. The person who reported the death was on scene when police arrived and has been interviewed. She is not considered a suspect at this time.
