Windsor - Feb. 21, 2022:
Over 3200 fans were treated to an exciting hockey game, on the Family Day holiday. The Windsor Spitfires hosted the Saginaw Spirit and skated to a 6-3 win. The Spitfires came out of the gate, with lots of energy, feeding from the 50% capacity of fans that returned to the WFCU Centre.

Spitfires, Daniel D’Amico opened the scoring at the 8:57 mark of the first period. D’Amico wristed a bullet of a shot that grazed the inside of the post, beating Saginaw’s goaltender Tristan Lennox. Windsor continued their success applying lots of pressure in the offensive zone. At the 12:48 mark of the first period, James Jodoin scored to make it 2-0 Spitfires.

The second period, Wyatt Johnston scored his 28th goal of the season at the 1:29 mark of the second period with a nice feed from Andrew Perrott. Louka Henault later scored at 15:34 of the second, to give the Spitfires a 4-0 advantage. Saginaw tried to gain some momentum, late in the second period with a power play goal from Spirit’s, Mitchell Smith making the score 4-1 at the end of two periods.

In the third period the Spitfires didn’t waste time to regain the four-goal lead. Spitfires Will Cuylle fed a saucer pass to Pasquale Zito for his 16th goal of the season to make it 5-1 Spitfires. Windsor filled the penalty box late in the third period including a major misconduct penalty for boarding by Will Cuylle. Saginaw capitalized late in the game, with two power play goals by Sapovaliv and Duhart to make the score closer than the play on the ice dictated.

Windsor Spitfires will welcome the Kitchener Rangers, Thursday, February 24 at 7:30 pm at the WFCU Centre. Spitfires currently sit in fourth place, in the Western Conference, three points behind rivals London Knights.
