New York - July 1, 2014 - The New York Rangers have signed defenseman Dan Boyle to a two-year, $9 million contract, according to Larry Brooks of the New York Post.

Boyle spent the past six seasons with the San Jose Sharks, who traded his negotiating rights to the New York Islanders on June 5. The veteran turns 38 on July 12.

He scored 12 goals and 36 points in 75 games with the Sharks last season, and in 954 games with the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Sharks he has 144 goals and 561 points.

He won a gold medal with Canada at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and the Stanley Cup in 2004 as a member of the Lightning.

The addition of Boyle could hint that the Rangers no longer are looking to re-sign defenseman Anton Stralman, who has spent the past three seasons with New York before becoming an unrestricted free agent.
