Toronto - Feb. 19, 2020:
Denis Malgin was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs by the Florida Panthers for Mason Marchment on Wednesday.

Each forward can become a restricted free agent July 1.

Malgin has 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in 36 games this season and 60 points (28 goals, 32 assists) in 184 games through four NHL seasons, all with the Panthers.

He joins Toronto with the Maple Leafs (31-22-8) in third place in the Atlantic Division, two points ahead of the Panthers, but 3-5-1 in their past nine. They complete a home-and-home set with the Pittsburgh Penguins at Scotiabank Arena on Thursday (7 p.m. ET; ESPN+, TVAS, TSN4, ATTSN-PT, NHL.TV) after a 5-2 loss at PPG Paints Arena on Tuesday.

Toronto was in the market for help at forward after it announced Andreas Johnsson would be out the rest of the season because of knee surgery Wednesday.

Marchment, the son of former NHL defenseman Bryan Marchment, made his NHL debut Jan. 2 and has one assist in four games.

The Panthers (31-22-6) trail the New York Islanders, Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus Blue Jackets by four points for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference entering their game at the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday (10 p.m. ET; PRIME, FS-F, NHL.TV).
