Cornwall - Mar. 4, 2011 - Cornwall Curling Centre's Kevin Baker, Scott McDonald, Jeff Bethune and Mark McDonald qualified this past weekend to compete in the Provincial Intermediate Championships in Oshawa. The Intermediates is an event for curlers over the age of forty and winning the event is an opportunity to claim a new provincial banner for Cornwall.
Qualification for this event began with the zone playdowns in early February, and after winning the zones, the Cornwall rink advanced to the Eastern Ontario region, which was played this past weekend at the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club in Kingston.
The Cornwall team, along with Ottawa's Doug Johnston will represent Eastern Ontario at the provincial championships beginning on March 9th and running through until the 12th.
This is the second time in the past four seasons that Cornwall will be represented at the Men's Intermediates Provincials. The Cornwall team is the same team that claimed Cornwall's Labatts Open Bonspiel in December and recently won the Primrose Cup at a the Stockton Invitational Bonspiel at the Country Club in Boston, Massachusetts.
