Colts suffer setback in Pembroke
Netminder Pete Karvouniaris and his fellow Colts teammates dropped a 5-4 decision to Pembroke on Friday night.

Cornwall - Jan. 22, 2011 - The Pembroke Lumber Kings got the upper hand on the Cornwall Colts Friday in a battle of Central Hockey League powerhouses.

Pembroke defenceman Maurice Alvarez scored the go-ahead goal roughly halfway through the third period and the Lumber Kings managed to hang on the rest of the way for a 5-4 win over the Colts before an announced crowd of 1,979 at the Pembroke Memorial Centre.

With the loss, the league-leading Colts saw their record fall to 39-7-1-0 (79 points), while Pembroke improved to 36-7-0-2 (74 points), good for second overall.

It was a tough setback for the Colts, who were coming off a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Brockville Braves on home ice a night earlier.

On Friday, Cornwall headed to the dressing room for the first intermission with a 2-1 lead over Pembroke thanks to a pair of goals from Billy Ulrick and Tyson Spink. The Lumber Kings regained the lead in the second before Colts captain Jacob Laliberte notched a late mid-frame marker to knot the game at 3-3. Mitch Zion notched the Colts' fourth goal, but it didn't prove to be enough. Along with Alvarez' game-winner, Jonathan Milley notched a pair for Pembroke, while Mitch Gallant and Kyle Just had a goal apiece.

Despite the unfavourable result on the scoreboard, Colts fans still have reason to cheer after Friday's setback to Pembroke. The trio of Laliberte and Tyson and Tylor Spink combined for five points on the night to continue their offensive assault on the league. Laliberte sits first in league scoring with 47 goals and 103 points, while Tyson Spink is third overall (29 goals, 80 points) and Tylor is fifth (28 goals, 76 points).

The Colts will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Cumberland to take on the Grads. Their next home game is Thursday when the Smiths Falls Bears visit the Cornwall Civic Complex (7:30 p.m. start).
