Colts fall flat against Junior Sens
Colts forward Mitch Zion battles for a loose puck with Carl Faucher of the Ottawa Junior Senators during Central Hockey League action Saturday at the Cornwall Civic Complex. Ottawa won the game 6-1.

Cornwall - Jan. 29, 2011 - The Cornwall Colts may want to lobby league officials to let them stick with Thursday nights for all of their home games.

In a rare Saturday afternoon contest at the Cornwall Civic Complex, the Colts seemed out of sync and out of sorts, falling 6-1 to the speedy Ottawa Junior Senators.

With little to cheer for in the way of goals, some of the Colts faithful in attendance focused instead on delivering jeers towards referees Rejean Amyot and Nygel Pelletier, who called eight penalties against the Colts. The Junior Sens made the most of the opportunities, collecting four goals on the power play.

Ottawa's Dalen Hedges opened the scoring roughly midway through the first period. Colts captain Jacob Laliberte notched his 51st goal of the season - in 50 games no less - early in the middle frame to tie the game up, but things soon began to fall apart for Cornwall.

The Colts were called on three consecutive penalties - including a high sticking double minor to Sam Gilbert - and the Junior Sens managed to score three straight goals by Joey House, Drew Anderson and Brandon Petrie to carry a 4-1 lead in to the third period. Anderson and Owen Werthner closed out the scoring for Ottawa in the third period.

Fortunately for the Colts, they won't have to wait long to try and get back into the win column. On Sunday, they'll hit the road to face the Gloucester Rangers.

GAME NOTES - The Colts offence was hampered by the absence of Tylor Spink, who's nursing a lower body injury . . . . The announced attendance was 1,025 . . . . Pete Karvouniaris was in nets for the Colts' loss, making it just his seventh loss of the season. The Colts netminder currently leads the league with a 2.11 goals against average.
