Low grades for Winchester, Carkner in season to forget
Local Sens players Jesse Winchester and Matt Carkner have been given a D+ and C+ for their play during the 2010-11 season by two Ottawa Sun sportswriters.

Cornwall - Apr. 23, 2011 - It was a season to forget for the Ottawa Senators as the team finished near the bottom of the NHL pack and failed to make it to the post-season.

And in the eyes of two Ottawa sportswriters, there were a number of Sens players who didn't make the grade during the 2010-11 season.

So how did the local Sens players fare?

Long Sault native and former Cornwall Colt Jesse Winchester was given a 'D+' by the Ottawa Sun's Don Brennan and Bruce Garrioch for his efforts. It's a mark that isn't far off from many of the other Sens forwards.

"There's nothing fancy, but he didn't contribute the way he did last year," the reporters said of Winchester.

Meanwhile, Winchester's Matt Carkner scored a 'C+' from the writers, one of the better marks among the Sens' defence corps.

"Brought his physical style before finishing the year on the injury list," they wrote of Carkner.
