Good, Bad and Ugly: Sabres vs San Jose Sharks
Enroth was sharp as the Sabres pulled out the 4-1 win, their second this year over the Sharks.

Buffalo - November 19, 2014 - Following every Sabres game, we’ll be taking a little look at the previous night’s action with a little segment called “good, bad and ugly”. Expect a loooooooot of ugly.

Let’s get on with it about the 4-1 win over the San Jose Sharks.

The Good

A winning streak? We’re on a freakin’ winning streak? How is that even possible at this point? If you’re reading the box score of this game, you just assume the Sharks showed up way late and Buffalo actually managed to score on an open net a few times over two periods, right?

Either way, it feels nice to see the team winning and still know they pose absolutely no threat to ruining the tank effort. They’re still the worst team in the league by a country mile except for when they play the Sharks, apparently. They now have eight straight wins over the Sharks dating back to 2010 and that’s pretty ridiculous considering the last two seasons.

The Bad

The bad actually had nothing to do with their play on the ice for once. Instead, the bad goes to Michal Neuvirth’s injury. He left with an apparent lower-body injury at the start of the second period, giving way to Enroth. The only cool thing about the situation is that 47-year-old goalie coach Arturs Irbe suited up as the emergency goalie and it would have been cool to see him again.

Neuvirth’s injury doesn’t really mean a ton for this team. It sucks to lose a guy playing so well, but they were losing regardless of anything he does. When you’re facing 100 shots per night, there’s only so much you can do.

Either way, this opens up the backup job for Nathan Lieuwen in any event. If it’s short-term, Enroth will likely just start until Neuvrith gets back; if it’s long-term, Lieuwen will get a few starts why Enroth carries the load.

The Ugly

If you’re a Sharks fan, you’re at least kind of hitting the panic button right now, right? The Sharks are treading water right now and they’ve dropped both games against Buffalo. I understand the Sabres are on a winning streak and everything, but this team could probably challenge good AHL teams and still lose.

Even worse, rookie Troy Grosenick went from a 45-save shutout in his debut to giving up four goals on 13 shots in a loss to Buffalo. How does that even happen in the NHL today? Just a lot of head-shaking going on after this one.
