It was a slippery ride home from a slippery Phantoms win tonight at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Yes we have about 4 inches of the new white stuff at our house and it was a slow ride home from the game tonight. The WBS Penguins let a 4-3 lead slip to head all the way to the shoot out tonight as the Lehigh Valley Phantoms slipped past WBS 5-4.
First period didn't go well for the WBS Penguins it was Lehigh Valley getting on the board first tonight with a goal by Taylor Leier just under five minutes in. The Penguins would come back with a goal of their own Tom Kostopoulos would tip in a shot making it one each.
Lehigh Valley would take the lead late in the first on a bad clearing attempt by the Penguins, the puck ended up on the stick of Adam Comrie who snaps it top shelf past Zatkoff to make it a two to one game. Leaving the ice for the first intermission WBS looking at 40 more minutes of hockey trailing the Phantoms 2-1.
WBS came out looking for something in the second period and they found it just :57 in Comor Sheary lights the lamp making it 2-2. Bryan Rust makes it 3-2 Penguins with a nice snap shot top shelf behind Zepp.
The Phantoms were not going away as they evened it up three each on a goal by Akeson, but the WBS Penguins would go ahead 4-3 on a nice Bobby Farnham goal. The second would end with the Phantoms giving the Pens a two minute power play to start the third.
WBS would not convert the third period power play and would not score again in tonight's game well in regulation anyway. The Lehigh Valley Phantoms would capitalize on the power play just past the mid point of the third period making it a 4-4 game. Despite their efforts the WBS Penguins could not break the tie regulation ended even Steven and heading for OT
It was still even after the OT was played so on to the shoot out WBS went first Scott Wilson did not score Lehigh Valley's Straka did from there it was Bryan Rust netting on the second shooter and no goal for LV. Needless to say it went third round no goals fourth round D'Agostino no goal and LV Leier goal. The LV Phantoms pulled out the shoot out win 5-4.
