Spits roar back to go 2-0
The Windsor Spitfires exploded for five goals in the third period, overcoming a 2-0 deficit for a huge, 5-2 win in Sault Ste Marie on Friday night. The Spits will head home to host the Greyhounds on Thursday night at the WFCU Centre.

Sault. Ste. Marie - September 24, 2016 - The Spitfires exploded for five goals in the third period, overcoming a 2-0 deficit for a huge, 5-2 win in Sault Ste Marie on Friday night.

Goals by Morgan Frost (5:47, 1st Period) and Liam Hawel (5:09, 2nd) looked to have the Greyhounds comfortably in front in their season and home opener. But a burst of three goals in a 3:40 stretch of the final 20 gave the Spits the lead in a hurry and for good.

Austin McEneny had four assists, earning first-star honours, and Mario Culina earned the win in goal in his hometown with 24 saves, as Windsor (2-0-0-0) made it back-to-back wins during #OHLOpeningWeek.

Trailing 2-0, Hayden McCool’s second goal in as many games cut the Sault Ste Marie (0-1-0-0) lead in half just 3:07 into the final frame.

Cristiano DiGiacinto (1) followed with a power-play goal just 59 seconds later, pulling the Spits even, before Cole Purboo banged home a rebound in front of Matthew Villalta (20 saves) to give the visitors a lead they wouldn’t give back.

Aaron Luchuk (2) and Andrew Burns (1) added late goals to salt away the win.

The Spits will head home to host the Greyhounds on Thursday night at the WFCU Centre.
