Spits Stung by High Flying Offence
The Windsor Spitfires were stung early, by an high flying Sarnia offense, skating to a 5-3 defeat in front of 4,538 fans at the WFCU centre. The Ontario Hockey league trade deadline passed on Wednesday. Windsor and Sarnia went in opposite directions of the trade spectrum. Windsor - January 12, 2018 - The Windsor Spitfires were stung early, by an high flying Sarnia offense, skating to a 5-3 defeat in front of 4,538 fans at the WFCU centre.

The Ontario Hockey league trade deadline passed on Wednesday. Windsor and Sarnia went in opposite directions of the trade spectrum. Sarnia added experienced veterans Jonathan Ang, Cam Dineen and Michael Pezzetta, all NHL draft picks. Sarnia adding to what was already a high scoring offense, trying to stay competitive for the OHL title. Windsor added youth, to rebuild and plan for the future. Spitfires point leader, Cole Purboo leads his team with 34 points, while Sarnia has 8 players with 34 points or more on their roster. On paper this matchup was very tilted. The sting have 8 players that already have been drafted into the NHL, while the spitfires only have Mikey DiPietro drafted.

Trevor Letowski, was back on the bench Thursday night for the spitfires, after returning from capturing the gold medal, at the World Junior Hockey tournament. Jordan Kyrou of the Sting, was also a part of the Gold medal team and fans applauded both individuals, for a great effort, to help, bring home gold to Canada.

Jonathan Ang's first game, with the new club opened the scoring for the Sting 1-0. The sting continued to pressure in the first period, outshooting the spitfires 11-6. The sting added goals by Rymsha and Pezzetta to take a 3-0 lead after one period. In the second period Stings, Cam Dineen made it look easy stretching the lead to 4-0. All three new players added to Sarnia's roster netted twine for the sting. Coaching staff and upper management of the Sting, must be salivating after seeing such a performance from the new additions.

Curtis Douglas put the spitfires on the board with his 12th goal of the season at the 16:43 mark of the second period. Jordan Ernst replied for the Sting making it 5-1 after two periods. The third period showed some life from the young spitfires outscoring the Sting by two goals. D'Amico and Purboo added goals for the spitfires, that came up short on the night.

Bright spots from a loss, were newcomer Cedric Schiemenz, picked up two assists, in his first game with the new club. Curtis Douglas scored his fifth goal, in nine games with the Spits and Daniel D'Amico has scored in three straight games, for the Spitfires. The Spitfires will travel to Sarnia, to face the sting once again on a back to back, at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena in Sarnia, at 7 PM.
