Chicago - February 27, 2015 - Defenseman Kimmo Timonen was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks by the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday.

Philadelphia receives a second-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft and a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2016 draft.

Timonen has not played since April 30, 2014, a Stanley Cup Playoff game against the New York Rangers.

Timonen, who will turn 40 on March 18, has not played since being diagnosed with blood clots in his leg and lungs in August. He began skating on his own Feb. 6 and has been practicing with the Flyers since Feb. 17.

Timonen, 39, has played 1,079 games for the Flyers and Nashville Predators. He has 117 goals and 454 assists (571 points).

He has said that no matter what happens going forward, this will be his last season, and that is why he pushed himself to return.

"I still want to leave this game on my own terms," he said on Feb. 6. "That's the biggest thing. Here I am and I got a chance to do that."

The Blackhawks placed defenseman Johnny Oduya (upper body) on injured reserve.
