This is the final piece of our five part look at what the Leafs may or may not do as the NHL Trade Deadline approaches on Monday March 2nd. Windsor - February 28, 2015 - This is the final piece of our five part look at what the Leafs may or may not do as the NHL Trade Deadline approaches on Monday March 2nd. In previous articles, our Maple Leaf columnists have discussed James van Riemsdyk, Jonathan Bernier, Dion Phaneuf and Phil Kessel. Today, we will discuss the other players in the Toronto system.

Tim Cornett: Note to Dave Nonis: For the love of the hockey gods, please trade James Reimer. The poor guy has taken the blame for everything bad in Toronto since his team collapsed in front of him in Game Seven with the Bruins. Reimer has had his chain yanked more than a junk yard dog. “You’re the number one guy.” “No you’re not”. “Yes you are”. “No you’re not”. “We’re going after an older goalie to mentor you”. “No we’re not”. “We’re going after Bernier who’s practically the same age as you”. Enough. Reimer needs a fresh start in a city where players aren’t under the microscope. This season is a write-off anyway, and since I don’t see Bernier going anywhere, it’s time to see what youngsters Antoine Bibeau and Christopher Gibson can do in a back up role. So how’s this for an idea? Reimer to Carolina for prospect Sergey Tolchinsky. You read it here first.

Will Cornett:I would like to see Peter Holland remain as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs because I believe he fits the mantra being introduced in the Leafs locker room. He is a gritty player with good size that provides energy on the fourth line, and helps increase tempo by providing aggressive play. Holland, along with Roman Polak and Richard Panik deserve to be given leadership roles for the upcoming season, as the Leafs push to rebuild a team with skill positions being filled by drafted players, rather than those acquired through free agency and trades. Rentals are fine as long as there is a strong core of players to accommodate. I believe the aforementioned players above make up that core. Rob McPhee: Get rid of Tyler Bozak, please. He is approaching 30 years old and might break 20 goals for the first time this season. He’s appalling defensively and apart from his face off value plays at a 3rd/4th line level most of the time. That being said the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins could both use a centre who can play top line minutes as well as the PP and PK. As for the return, teams are all over the place in their evaluation of Bozak. I expect him to be an 11th hour deal where a team decides they need to add a player with his skill set. In those situations the return can be wide spread. Either way I expect him to go to an Eastern Conference playoff team looking to make a deep push. Boston, New York, Montreal, Detroit or Florida could all make a push for Bozak.

Chris Savard: If you have read the first four articles in this series, you may have read that I would not trade James van Riemsdyk, Jonathan Bernier, Dion Phaneuf or Phil Kessel. However, there are some pieces that I would move, for the right price. Tyler Bozak could be a useful number two centre for a contender. I believe Kessel has deserves a proper top line centre. With the development of Morgan Rielly, I think there would be a market for Jake Gardiner. If Bernier is your number one guy, then say so and move James Reimer. If you could get a bag of pucks for Olli Jokinen – grab it. If the right market return was there for oft-injured Joffrey Lupul, then he goes too. Seems to be interest in Roman Polak – he’s been useful but he could fetch a pick. I keep Nazem Kadri and hope that his development slowly begins to match expectations. For the record, I would have kept Mike Santorelli – perhaps they can resign the UFA in the summer.
