SNAPSHOT - High pressure water main breaks on Water Street
Cornwall - Jul. 18, 2011 - A high-pressure water main has burst on Water Street in front of the Johnston Beaudette building. City of Cornwall crews are on site and have been trying to get the water shut off since about 2:00 pm.

All traffic to the area has been re-routed and the children playing on the play structure in Lamoureux Park had to be moved back. The water was shooting close to 40 feet in the air and was travelling a fair distance into Lamoureux Park. The water pressure was so strong that it was tossing large rocks with ease.

At this point, it is unclear as to how many properties will be without water and for how long. What is clear is that this incident will take a while to fix, as much of Water Street no longer exists.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.

UPDATE: Monday 11:41 PM - City Crews are still on site trying to get the flow of water completely stopped so that work can begin on the repair of the pipe. A welder is standing by waiting for the pipe to be dry.
