Cornwall - April 10, 2012 - This year’s CHORUS NOVUS spring concert will celebrate choral music inspired by the Book of Psalms. The concert program was designed to move and delight audiences, as well as to enlighten them about the use of psalms throughout history. The concert will take place on Sunday April 22nd, 7pm, at Trinity Anglican Church in Cornwall. Everyone welcome!

The Psalms are a collection of 150 very early hymns and prayers, written over a thousand-year period and common to many faith traditions. They are included in Hebrew and Christian bibles as well as the Islamic Book of David. The Psalms were originally intended to teach, explain, encourage and communicate. CHORUS NOVUS director Brian Hubelit explains why he planned an entire concert around the Psalms, “I believe that the Psalms represent one of our planet's greatest artistic and spiritual heritages. There is a psalm about almost every situation in our human lives-psalms that rejoice, celebrate, praise god, lament, threaten, commiserate-the Psalms are a remarkable collection of human stories, some sad, others bursting with joy.”

Psalms have served as inspiration to composers throughout the ages, resulting in a large and very diverse repertoire of choral music. Hubelit wants the audience to experience as many of these musical and poetic settings as possible during the spring concert. The program includes a wide variety of sacred and popular music inspired by the Psalms, in several languages. Choir members Felicity Brown, Éliette Campeau and Colleen Fitzpatrick will perform soprano solos. Rosemary Brown and special guest Miguel Young will accompany the choir.

The audience is invited to join CHORUS NOVUS for a reception in Trinity church hall following the concert. Tickets, $15 (free for age 16 and under), are available at Seaway Valley Tourism, 11 Water Street West, Cornwall. Tickets are also available at the door and from choir members.
