Whitby - November 28, 2011 - Captain Kirk now becomes Coach Kirk. The Carolina Hurricanes have fired head coach Paul Maurice and have replaced him with former Montreal Canadiens’ assistant coach Kirk Muller this morning.

Muller previously spent five seasons with the Canadiens as an assistant coach.

In 25 games this season, the Hurricanes are sporting a 8-13-4 record and sit in 14th place in the NHL’s Eastern Conference.

On June 27, 2011, Muller left the Canadiens for a head coaching position with the AHL Milwaukee Admirals. He leaves the Admirals today with a 10-6-0-1 record.

Muller is a beloved former player and coach with Les Bleu-Blanc-Rouge and fans today must be scratching their collective heads wondering why the Canadiens let him walk away this past summer.
