Oct. 14, 2013: There are a number of returning forwards eligible for the US from last year’s gold medal winning squad. The most notable is Alex Galchenyuk, who is currently playing over a point-a-game hockey in the NHL, so it’s a safe bet the Canadiens will not release him. Oct. 7, 2013: Early Monday, the news broke that the Philadelphia Flyers had fired coach Peter Laviolette after an 0-3 start to the season. Replacing him will be Craig Berube, who has been an assistant coach for the Flyers or head/assistant coach for the Phantoms since 2005-06. The Flyers’ effort in the first three games and preseason had been lackadaisical at best, and the Flyers decided to pull the trigger. FULL STORY

Oct. 3, 2013: Wednesday night, the Flyers dropped their home opener against the Maple Leafs by a score of 3-1. Brayden Schenn opened the scoring for the Flyers on a power play goal from the slot after a nice feed from Vinny Lecavalier. FULL STORY

Sep. 27, 2013: Similar to the goaltending position, there are only a few eligible defensemen able to return to this year’s squad. One is Seth Jones, who appears to be a lock for the Nashville Predators, who will need his services for their playoff push, leaving only one other returnee. Sep. 21, 2013: The 2014 U20 World Junior Championships will be held in Malmö, Sweden this year from December 26th, 2013 to January 5th, 2014. Entering the tournament, a target will be on the back of the US team as the defending champions. Many of the key players that won the gold medal last year, specifically standout goaltender John Gibson and clutch scorer Johnny Gaudreau, are no longer eligible, and the US will have to turn over the majority of its roster. Sep. 19, 2013: Samuel Morin was signed to a three-year entry level contract on Tuesday, but before the ink was dry on his contract, he was sent back to Rimouski Oceanic of the QMJHL. It was a move that was expected considering Morin is still very raw as a skater and all phases of his game need polishing. FULL STORY

Sep. 11, 2013: Late Monday night, it was reported by Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press that Dan Cleary had agreed in principle to a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers. The rumored details were that it was for 3 years, 8.25M (2.75 AAV), including a no trade clause. Then on Tuesday morning, the Flyers announced that Cleary had been invited to training camp on a professional tryout. According to Sam Carchidi of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren has said there are no promises on a deal for Cleary. FULL STORY
