Edmonton - September 4, 2012 - After two years with the club, Alex Semenets and FC Edmonton have mutually agreed to part ways.

The Ukrainian-born, Mississauga-raised striker impressed in the FC Edmonton 2011 pre-season - finding the back of the net three times in six games. In the NASL regular season last year, Semenets found his place on the team coming off the bench as the Eddies go-to super-sub where he banked over 300 minutes and scored in a 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

“Alex has been a true professional since he arrived here last year, we just didn’t have a spot for him on the team this season,” said FCE general manager Tom Leip. “We mutually agreed with Alex to release him so he could go and pursue other opportunities. We wish him all the best.”

Before signing with the Eddies in March 2011, he had played three years with the Vancouver Whitecaps USL side, where he continues to be a Whitecaps fan favourite. Semenets also played for the Canadian U-17 and U-20 sides.

The club wishes Alex Semenets all the best in his future soccer endeavours.
