Mar. 21, 2012: The Calgary Flames were handed their third consecutive loss in the past five days as they fell victim to the hard working Colorado Avalanche in overtime Tuesday night in Denver. After failing to take advantage of an easy schedule this past weekend against the two worst teams in hockey, you really have to wonder if this Calgary Flames team has learned anything from the past two seasons of falling just short when the going gets tough. Mar. 12, 2012: Nineteen year old rookie Sven Baertschi scored his first career NHL goal Sunday afternoon in Minnesota to help push the Calgary Flames past the Wild by a 4-3 score. Although the outcome was different, much of the Flames recent struggles would again become a cause for concern as they struggled all night to retain multiple goal leads against the worst team in the Eastern Conference. Mar. 2, 2012: After a terrible four game stretch to end the month of February, the Calgary Flames would begin March on a winning note as they stormed into Phoenix and beat the red hot Coyotes 3-2. A spectacular performance by Miikka Kiprusoff would essentially steal a victory from the home town kings as Michael Cammalleri would score the game winning goal mid way through the third and final frame. The top line of Olli Jokinen, Alex Tanguay and Jarome Iginla continue to find success as a trio but they were not alone on this night as the supporting cast of the Flames played a large role in capturing a much needed two points. Feb. 12, 2012: A strong start to the game Saturday night by the Calgary Flames saw the team quickly jump out to a 2-0 lead before squandering that goal cushion in the latter half of the hockey game. After the Vancouver Canucks managed to scratch and claw their way back into the game, an exciting overtime frame would follow yielding no winner which ultimately led to Jarome Iginla scoring the game winning shootout goal.
