Staal to Toronto? Too High A Price
In a recent column, my esteemed colleague Chris Savard would have Carolina Hurricane’s Eric Staal looking all blue and white for the princely sum of Tyler Bozak or Nazem Kadri, and Jake Gardiner as well as a first round draft pick. While I would love to see Staal doing what he does with a Maple Leafs crest on his sweater, I say no way.

Windsor - October 15, 2014 - In a recent column, my esteemed colleague Chris Savard would have Carolina’s Eric Staal looking all blue and white for the princely sum of Tyler Bozak or Nazem Kadri, and Jake Gardiner as well as a first round draft pick. While I would love to see Staal doing what he does with a Maple Leafs crest on his sweater, I say no way.

Too high a price.

While it would be great to add Staal to the Leafs line-up, I think it’s far too early to even think about Carolina trading away their captain and marquee player.

It’s also far too early to be thinking about the Leafs parting with a player like Gardiner. While he’s been a healthy scratch for the last two games, he’ll be back. And it says here he’ll come back with a mission to prove he belongs in Toronto. Trading Bozak would be a big mistake. Why would you want to break up the chemistry of the top line?

Here’s my deal. Kadri, Roman Polak, a first round pick, a second round pick, and a solid prospect.

Which is probably why I’m not an NHL GM.
