Red Wings spoil Babcock
Red Wings spoil Babcock's Homecoming

Oct. 10, 2015: Mike Babcock made his return to the Motor City Friday night along with his new team, but it was his old team that spoiled the party. In a highly anticipated matchup, the Detroit Red Wings hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Joe Louis Arena and came out on the winning end of a 4-0 score. FULL STORY

SNAPSHOT - I am being followed by a moon shadow

Sep. 28, 2015: Blood Moon is sometimes used to describe a Total Lunar Eclipse. When the Earth casts its shadow on a Full Moon and eclipses it, the Moon may get a red glow. This photo was sent to us by OH columnist Tim Cornett. FULL STORY

What about Keon and Horton?
What about Keon and Horton?

Sep. 19, 2015: On a drizzly Saturday afternoon last week, in the centre of the hockey universe, the latest bronze statues of Leafs past were unveiled. Legends Row welcomed two new members, as the likenesses of Borje Salming and Mats Sundin joined those of Johnny Bower, Ted Kennedy, and Darryl Sittler. In my humble opinion there are others who should have been cast in bronze before them. FULL STORY

Jul. 11, 2015: Currently known as the Queen of the Lakes, the MV Paul R. Tregurtha is the largest ship currently working the Great Lakes. She is a bulk carrier freighter, and was originally launched as the William J. DeLancey. She is the last of thirteen “thousand footers” to go into Great Lakes service. She is also the last Great Lakes ship to have been built in Lorain, Ohio at the American Ship Building Company yard. FULL STORY

SNAPSHOT - New Market opens in Windsor

Jun. 8, 2015: The City Market opened in the Walkerville area this weekend, and by all indications, it was a smashing success. Located on the east side of Walker Road just north of Richmond Street, the brand new complex features many vendors selling fruits and vegetables. There is also a butcher, a baker, and while we didn’t see a candle stick maker, there was an Avon lady and a florist. The prices are great too. We stocked up on fruits and vegetables and got everything in the photo below for 23.00! Check it out next time you’re in the area. FULL STORY

Windsor Raceway - All But Gone
Windsor Raceway - All But Gone

Jun. 6, 2015: As demolition of the Windsor Raceway begins this week I’m reminded of all the good times I spent there over the years. My earliest memory of the place was the day my mom and dad took us to see it. I was about seven years old, and if I remember right, it was an open house affair, where we were all allowed to go out onto the racing surface. It felt like rubber, and was called something like the Tartan Track. FULL STORY

Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus - Babcock headed to Toronto

May. 20, 2015: To quote New York Sun newsman Francis Pharcellus Church; “Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.” Jolly old St. Nick brought Mike Babcock from Hockeytown to the real centre of the hockey universe. FULL STORY

The 8 Week Challenge - It’s Not A Diet

May. 7, 2015: Today’s column comes with a disclaimer. It’s not for the faint of heart. To my family, friends and associates, the following may be quite shocking to all of you. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. I haven’t had a coffee in over a week. Or French fries. Or pizza. Or a lot of things I used to eat and drink. Why? Because along with ten of my colleagues at DJ Galvanizing, and our spouses, I began a program called the 8 Week Challenge. FULL STORY

Maple Leafs get pounded in Columbus, There is always next year,
Maple Leafs get pounded in Columbus, There is always next year,

Apr. 9, 2015: The Toronto Maple Leafs played their 81st game of the season Wednesday night; a roadie in Columbus. The match featured two teams that won’t be in the playoffs this year, but for different reasons. The Blue Jackets were hit hard by injuries, and lost over 500 man games because of them. The Leafs? Not so lucky. At least that would explain why a team that looked so good on paper at the start of the season could be as dismal as they were. As the saying goes, there’s always next year. But that saying is growing old, because they’ve been using it since 1967. FULL STORY

Leafs Get Burned By Flames
Leafs Get Burned By Flames

Mar. 14, 2015: The Toronto Maple Leafs started a three game road trip in Calgary Friday night and got beat by a score of 6-3. This one was over in the first period. All Calgary did was score four goals, including not one, but two short handed goals. On the bright side, the lone Leafs’ goal of the period was scored by Richard Panik on a power play. Calgary’s top line of Sean Monahan, Jiri Hudler, and Johnny Gaudreau combined for nine points in the game, and to no one’s surprise were named the three stars of the game. FULL STORY
