Stoney Point - November 20, 2014 - There was not a member of Leafs Nation tonight who wasn’t pleased to see the Toronto Maple Leafs skate to a 5-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning at the Air Canada Centre. That said, there was likely nobody more relieved to get the win than Head Coach Randy Carlyle.

Not surprisingly, after getting pumped 15-4 in their last two games there was a lot of speculation in the Tee-Oh that had the Buds dropped another lopsided decision tonight in front of the hometown faithful, that Mr. Carlyle would be looking for work on Friday.

Wednesday of last week, the good Leafs looked great defeating a strong team in the Boston Bruins 6-1. Just a few new nights later the bad Leafs got pounded by the Buffalo Sabres 6-2, one of the worst teams in the league. Odds makers in Vegas must be getting ulcers trying to set the odds on which team will show up in Blue and White.

Tonight saw a return appearance by the good Leafs showed up tonight, out-scoring one of the top teams in the Atlantic Division.

David Clarkson opened the scoring 89 second into the game with his sixth of the year and that would set the tone for the Leafs on this night. Alex Killorn would tie it late in the first to send the game into the room deadlocked after one.

The second period belonged to Toronto. Former Windsor Spitfire Richard Panik put Toronto up 2-1 within the first three minutes of the period. Despite being listed on the IR by TSN earlier in the week, James Van Riemsdyk had a solid period notching two big goals to increase the lead to 4-1 after forty minutes.

Steven Stamkos notched his 13th of the season with just over four minutes to go in the third. Jonathan Bernier would shut it down the rest of the way facing just seven shots in total in the third period. Over the course of the game, he would make 26 saves to register his sixth win of the season. Ben Bishop took the loss for Tampa Bay. Polak would add an insurance marker to seal the deal.

Daniel Winnik, Roman Polak, Tyler Bozak, Cody Franson, Phil Kessel, and Dion Phaneuf each registered one assist. The Leafs return to action on Saturday night as the play host to the Detroit Red Wings.
